Of all the sports in the world, it is rugby which most closely resembles the field of battle. Today, we consider what Pierre does to prepare for the physical demands of an 80 minute rugby match. This process includes nutrtion and supplementation before, during and after the game. This ensures that Pierre's body functions at optimum level during the game whilst recovering as quickly as possible after.

In the last 15 years, the average weight of both forwards and backs in rugby has increased by more than 10kg. The reason for this increase in weight is simple, greater mass equates to greater power, the quintessential ingredient of professional rugby. On today's show we look at the training regime of Pierre Spies, aptly dubbed the Superman of Springbok rugby. However, Pierre's 108kg physique is not the birth right of this highly talented ahtlete.

While it is clear that Pierre Spies has a remarkably low body fat percentage (6.5%), you probably didn't know that he hasn't eaten take away food in 4 years. Perhaps even more remarkable is Pierre's 10.7 second Personal Best in the 100 metre sprint, testimony to his talent as an athlete.

As one of the key Springboks leading up to the World Cup in New Zealand this year, the establishment of Pierre Spies as a South African Superstar didn't just happen overnight.
